trouble with The FilmMachine version 1.5.0.173 beta, I know it is long please read

      Good Afternoon Mask,

First and foremost I want to say that you are a true king amongst men. I see a lot of post with either commenst or complaints and and very little with congratulations. I just wanted to say thank you for one of the greatest apps that I have ever used. I use TFM about 5 to 6 times a week (ver 1.5.0.13) If it is not broken why fix it.

But I am having a problem with The FilmMachine version 1.5.0.173 beta:

My promble is that cce stopped encoding at 75%. I got an error message stating that there was not enough space to complete the command. Sorry I know that is vague but after 7 hours of encoding thats just an error you really do not want to see I just hit ok and the entire process completed in less than a minute.

Maybe it was me but I think I jinxed it or willied it to fail if thats is even possible. I was reading the diff comments of the beta users in the forum. And I was thinking I hope I don't have those problems Instead I had to come up with an original one just for you

The version of cce I am using is the same one that you blessed me originally. I am still using cce 2.67. I had a feeling that I should have used the previous version of cce front (VER 1.0) that you sent me a while ago when I was having trouble getting cce to finish the encode.

Well atleast we can narrow down one problem we know it isnt cce. Is there anyway to replicate that problem so that I can tell you exactly what it is , without having to wait 7hrs to encode? First here is my avi log file and second will be my tfm log file: I could not figure out how to include the graph.grf file therfore I included it as an attachment. I tried to include it as an attacmnet but it would not let me. I will rar it and attach it that way. I was successfull at raring it and i have included it as an attachment. Please see below for my log files

As always I want to thank you in advance for your time and patience with this matter.

      Best Regards,

      Onyxbfly

Why don´t you use roba method, that way you take less time to encode and see what the prob. is..
Take a screenshot with the problem, and post it.

    4. #619
Good Idea Ciberghost, Admitidely I have never tried to use that, nor have I thought about using it to reproduce the error. I'l reduce the numebr of passes to 4 and enable the roba method. Hopefully it will be done prior to going to work if not I'll report back when I return.

      Thanks

Do you get significant improvement with more than 4 passes?

      Hi!

Thank you your answer. Label rename too high problem?

Ok, I see this program, but many many bug found. Exmaple, if I'm use this program, the memory usage is horrible. My RAM size is 1GB. Well, if i'm use your program, the phisical memory is out, and swap file is very big, example 1,5 Gbyte. In the task manager, I don't see which application use this memory. But if film machine not run, no problem. I see, few user reported this problem too.

      Thank you.

      Post Some real significant tips

Hello,Mask,I have been using the latest beta for 3 days now,it is really impressive, and the new features are now more than ever before when releasing a beta. The only thing that bothers me really much is the following:With the previous beta, one could stretch the preview to full screen by dragging its edges. Now the preview has audio, byt with no stretch -one cannot see the subs well enough-which is bad-I used to try different text font and size-and I cannot do it beacues I would have to wait the conversion to finish adn then see the result-which cannot be called preview.
The second thing I wish to propose-can`t there be a 64-bit version of TFM?That is how performance will really increase-especially when using a dual core processor-some guides like tomshardware.com say that it would be up to...40 percent per core I hope I am not wasting anyone`s time...

      Thanks FixT00L,

I will look at the previes and see if the possibility is there to put it fullscreen.

64 I wish but there is not 64 bit compiler of Delphi yet. Only for Free-Pascal but then I have to rewrite my whole app and I don't want to do that.

As soon as there will be a 64 bit compiler of Delphi I will release it.

      Good Morning Gruppe,

@ jorgeluispena I often go with 6 or more passese depending on how special the movie is to me. If you check different forums you will get different answers on weither or not it will give you improvement in quality. I tend to think so. Scene rules specify 6 or more passes.

@ ciberghost I tried it with the roba method and it was successfull. HHMMM I tried it with 9 passes and its stuck at 77% which is 2 % more than it was when I first tried it. Unfortunetly there is no error message it just hangs in fact my whole computer has frozen or rather the clock did as well as the encoder. for example I am writing this at 5:43am and my computer clock says 5:36am which means something happened. Using the Roba method for me prouces undersize files. The dvd it produced was 3.5 gb. I have used it before but not realized it is caledthe roba method. I also use cce 2.70 and I use the 1pass vbr with the Q factor. The lower the number the higher the quality and larger the file size will be. Is this the same thing or is teh Roba method something different alltogether? I really do not knwo what to do at this point because its just sitting there doing nothing and it seems like so much of a waste of time effort energy..... Well not relaly its frustrating but if I can learn why this happened and what caused it and what can I do to correct it than that makes it all the more worth while.

@ Mask, please help we have seemed to gone down this road before. I even tried replacing cce front with the one you sent me. It worked when I tried the Roba method as Ciberghost suggested but when I try it it the regular way my machine just hangs up or freezes im not sure what the technical term is.

I wish I wasnt so hasty wheni receive the error initially now my machine is doing the same thing without the error message.

Can you send me teh older version of cce front thatyou sent me in April, for osme strage reason this one says that I modified it on on 2/24/06. Everytime I check it tells me that iIhave modified it.

I dont know I'm just grasping at straws. Ill try it agin with (ver 1.5.0.13) and see if I can either reproduce that error or get it to work. Here is the log of the one that did not work and below it is a log of the one that worked using the Roba method. In retrospect I did make some changes since I assumed that if it would work in Roba mode it would work in regular mode, I changed the colour of the subtitles and I also changed the vertical margin from 20 to 15 and I changed the bottom margin from 15 to 10 in an attempt to have the subtiles more into the black are as oppossed to having them right above the letter box and in the picture. I do not know if those changes would force cce to crash, I don't have a clue just trying to be as descriptive as possible.

      Thanks in advance.

I know that CCE will use a lot of memory when encoding. I never used myself more then 4 passes so I can't say if the memory consuming will get more each pass. Maybe you can use CCE manually without TFM and see if it get stuck also. Maybe you can watch the memory usage.

Attached you will find the old and the new CCEFront.

      Good Luck.

PS. I will be back from holiday on 5 march.

Holiday who told you you could have a holiday...Just joking if you apply this much attention to your personal life that you do to your TFM project I am more than sure you work very hard and you are very sucessfull and you more than certainly deserve a break.

Now should I test the new beta or should I use old reliable: ver 1.5.0.13 I don't mind testing. I'll probably end up testing the ver 1.5.0.13 first, only because I just tried using the new beta.

Another question I have pertains to subtitle placement what settings should I use to place the subtitles onto the black bars the letter box area?

I don't have any trouble doing more than 4 passes using CCE directly. How can I check for memory usage? In the task manager? If I am experiencing memory leakage or usage how can I correct it? I really am not in a position to buy a new computer.

Once again thank you for your quick reply.

Enjoy your Vacation or more appriately your holiday.

Smile A good idea FROM GREECE

      To the Mask
      ------------
This is the greatest program to convert avi to DVD. Its fast and simply.
Also has a great interface look. Here in GREECE all we use TFM.
I have a very small idea to get it better (us we thing).
      1) You can but your own bitrate to the program but only the average. A good idea is that you can put also min bitrate. Program puts min bitrate to 300 (this is very low) and max to avg+200 (thats good). Because min is set to 300 many AVIS convert is converted with low quality. At list you can put min to 1200 !!!!
      2) And another request that no program has done before. Program could have an option to put your desire size output file and compute the right bitrate to encode. Of course I don't mean to chose a CD or DVD but the size of the output *.mpg. Of course min bitrate must be set to 1200 (or to be an option for that)
      3) Finally a good idea is that to have an option to stop the process when *.mpg is created so you can put it to a DVD maker program to create menu e.t.c.

I hope that is requests and for others.................
      THANKS again for the program

and the problem starts here, after the CCE is loaded I receive an error dialog saying:

Frame size 756x56 is not supported. Supported frame size up to 720x576

If I do a preview before creating the files for authoring, it looks PERFECT.

I tried with a patched CCE trial and a patched retail version and the same dialog appears.

attached is a RAR with the created files (without the AC3 because of size)

      any help is appreciated.

      Thanks

You have little HD space left for the conversion. Free at least 20GB for an AVI to DVD conversion!
