      A different subtitle problem

      First, love the program. Thanks for all the work you guys have done on it.

      Got a problem, though. Whenever I try to reencode an AVI to DVD with subtitles, I get this error message:

      and if I keep hitting enter, it goes on and on and on like so:

      This has happened with several AVIs/subtitle files. One example is an avi of Lilja 4-Ever and its accompanying .srt subtitle file.

      The first few lines of the .srt file are as follows:

      1
      00:03:02,880 --> 00:03:07,317
      THREE MONTHS EARLIER.
      SOMEWHERE IN WHAT WAS ONCE
      THE SOVIET UNION

      2
      00:03:36,480 --> 00:03:38,596
      - Hi.
      - Hi, come in.

      3
      00:03:38,760 --> 00:03:43,276
      - ShaII we go?
      - Sure, I just have to pack my things.

      4
      00:03:43,440 --> 00:03:47,558
      - What things?
      - My things. I'm moving!

      5
      00:03:47,720 --> 00:03:49,995
      - Where?
      - The States!
      I'm not sure if it's a formatting error in the subtitle file itself or something wrong with The FilmMachine, but like I said it's happened with every other subtitled movie I've tried.

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Can you email the subtitle file to me, so I can check it out.

      Ok, it's sent.

      I tested the file on my machine and it works great, no errors.

      Maybe your country settings are different. I heard from someone that when your time-settings are AM/PM instead of 24 hours display you can get some errors.

      Good luck,

      Having the same problem as DeadWolfBones. Invalid Subtitle messages using .sub or .srt file. My region setting are set for Australia and I tried changing time-settings for 24 hours display (both H:mm:ss and HH:mm:ss) but still get the same problem.

      I should add, I'm trying to add english subititles and have tried using .sub and .srt file.
      Files load no problems with other conversion programs like sub2srt, etc. Also tried changing regional settings to US English instead of Australian English but no joy.

      http://www.urusoft.net/products.php?cat=sw&lang=1 - I ran across this yesterday - appears to be able to edit, convert/check subtitles in a variety of formats .... and it's free.

      Any use?

      Thanks Roady, yep I use that myself, however, of all the subs it supports, it doesnt suport VobSubs files and these are the most common subs being added to avi files (*.sub + *.idx) Vobsub is needed to convert these to srt format.
      Cheers,

      OK tried regional settings with UK, US and AUS english.
      Also tried clock set for 24hr time display.

      Thanks The_Mask for taking a look at this. I've emailed the files.

      Australian and having problem as well! - know why!!

      Hi
      I'm also Australian and also been having the problem.

      But I have worked out what is most likely causing it & have been able to get around it!

      Basicly I changed my regional settings* to Dutch(Netherlands) and FilmMachine no longer failed with an error. Comparing the regional settings between English (Australian) & Dutch (Netherlands) I noticed that our Decimal Symbol and Digit Grouping Symbol are reversed.

      ie English (Australian) Decimal Symbol = . (Full Stop) Digit Grouping Symbol = , (comma)
      Dutch (Netherlands) Decimal Symbol = , (comma) Digit Grouping Symbol = . (Full Stop)

      I hope this sheds some light onto the problem & will enable you to resolve it Mask.

      @fantomas: Thanks, I was thinking about that to but had no time to test it yet, I will take a look at it and fix it.

      @Scott: Your Sub file that you send is not a text sub file, your file should come with an Idx file and is not usable in The FilmMachine. The textual Sub files should look like this:

      {53}{98}Dat was zo geregeld, Q.
      {146}{211}Ik wou dat ik jou|kon laten verdwijnen.
      {291}{326}Binnen.
      {405}{460}Voor je vertrekt naar IJsland...
      {519}{569}...vertel wat je weet|van James Bond.
      {606}{666}Hij is een agent,|en een wilde.

      So you see this is framebased and not timebased.

      @fantomas, Thanks, I got good results changing decimal symbol and grouping symbol as you suggested.

      @the_mask: Thanks as well, I'm still new to playing with subtitles and a little confused by all the diferrent formats. Still I got good results in the end after using the program mentioned above to convert to microsub format which looks the same as your example.
