Thread: New version of The FilmMachine (Version 1.4)

  1. :(

The latest TFM 1.4 should be marked BETA!

Adding an ALPHA version of QuEnc to the "STABLE" version 1.4 of TFM was a very, very BAD IDEA.

And the second bad idea is forcing user to manually change QuEnc version, since 0.56 ALPHA doesn't work for me AT ALL. It does encode 10MB (target file size) but not a single kB more, then closes itself, and TFM continues its work with an uncompleted m2v file. QuEnc 0.54 from TFM 1.3 works FINE.

"The problem with low audio (quality I guess - Kokecho) stays the same..."

    Same here

    I use CCE 2.67.023
And the sound is VERY low...please check that or must we read the lips of the actors ????

  3. F**k, cant make TFM 1.4 work with any QuEnc, other than 0.56 ALPHA.. Taking a rollback to TFM 1.3 for now and looking for some other software... Sorry The Mask, but U wanted to release 1.4 for Christmas so badly, even if its just BAD? I hate forced "happines".

  4. If you guys keep complaining without giving me anything to work on, like *.log files I can't help you guys.

By the way with encoding with CCE nothing changed so that the quality is lower if not the fault of my program.

Everything works for me, so if you want me to help you guys help me by sending me the log files.

For the use of QuEnc I gave you guys a warning that it is still very buggy in my history file.

If you want to use an older version of QuEnc just replace The FilmMachine.exe with the one attached in the rar file.

  5. The_Mask, i will stop using vbr audio. but for the other millions of people that use autogk with the default settings? what are you going to do with them? to suggest them not to use vbr audio again?

  6. Hi mate.
I havent been on these forums since way back In september, so I apologise, however there has really been no need to.

Ive happily been using V1.2, and then V1.3 all this time, In conjunction with Cinemacraft V2.67, without a problem

I recently purchased a P4 @ 3.4, with 1Gb RAM, and decided to try that at an encode, and see how much quicker It was than my other machines.

To be honest....Not that much quicker.

I had V1.3, so Installed that, but unfortunately It wouldnt go past the avisynth scrypt file part, and kept looking for a file called noname......???

I could browse for the script file, and It would then resume, but as soon as It had finished that stage, It would halt, the program would lock, and the only way to stop It was through task manager.

Anyway, I decided to log onto The Film Machine home. and saw a new version. I read the news, and jumped on the forums, and within 2 threads, had my answer, which obviously was the Hyperthreading part.

I have since Installed this new Version, V1.4, only this afternoon, and have encoded an Xvid avi file to DVD5 without a single problem, and the encoding quality after a 4 pass encode, was at Its usual brilliance. It took somewhere between 7 or 8 hours, for the job

To the Author of this program............THANKYOU mate. This IS an excellent program. I am an IT graduate, and tend to keep my machines pretty clean. I only Install and use, a few programs only, and dont clutter my machines with unecessary junk, so maybe thats why I have never had any major problems with this program, and only successes. Its not uncommon for my XP encoding machines to run for a month without reboot.

I dunno what I would have done, If I couldnt have used it, even though I have V1.3 on my 2 other AMD machines, both of which have always worked perfectly with this program. I will say, I was disappointed In the performance of the P4. I thought It would have been much quicker.

Sure, the earlier versions of The FilmMachine were a bit so so, but not the last couple. This software, Is easily the easiest to use, and best "DVD Maker" I have ever used, and to be honest, Ive tried most.

To those that use VBR audio..........IMO...........It sux. I never use It on any video I personally use, and stick with the old reliable CBR without any problems

Ive never had much luck with VBR In the past, but the Film Machine does, IMO, a pretty good job of the audio side of things, especially on the Xvids I have downloaded which usually use weird unecessary stuff like that.

Also, Its one of the few programs that can successfully convert NTSC to PAL, and vice versa, and still maintain perfect audio sync, regardless of audio format or whatever.

Before I found this program, IT WAS HELL, and basically Impossible, without a degree In software engineering or something. Most of the programs were extremely complicated to use.

If I had to have one single complaint about The FilmMachine, I just wish It could handle more formats, for example mpeg video. Its a bugger having to convert mpegs to an avi, before i can use The FilmMachine. lol

So once again mate. thankyou for this fine piece of Software. I hope these positive comments do good for the ego. Its fine work, and muchly deserved

I am looking forward to any future improvements, but they must be getting hard to find by now. lol

This software, at both the price and the way It does Its job, Is one of the best bargains you will find on the internet, and only rivalled by three Other pieces of free software, being Virtual Dub/Virtual Dub Mod, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter, all of which I use daily. Leastways, I place It at those heights, as I think they are also fine programs, and can remember how hard this job was, only a couple of years back.

    Cheers

  7. Thanks Macca38, this is where I all do it for.

For your wish about Mpeg, what exactly do you want to do? if it is interesting maybe I can implement it.

I am now working on implementing a lot with DirectShow filters, but progress is slow because I have a lot to learn about DirectShow programming. But this keeps the fun into programming.

  8. CCE 2.70 Support?

Are you planning to add support for CCE 2.70 in The FilmMachine?

  9. Yes I am, probably in the next version.

  10. Hey The_Mask,
You've made an excellent program, my man. No complaints at all. I'm wondering though, have you thought of becoming part of that whole Doom9 scene? Your software would probably attract a load more people with more positive feedback. It did wonders for Gordian Knot.

    Just a thought.

    Cheers

  11. I tried that once in the beginning and nobody answered my request for putting it on Doom9.

If you know how to get on Doom9, just let me know.

  12. Hi The_Mask,

Thanks for the great program. It is great to be able to convert AVi to DVD without manually using virtualdub then CCE or Tmpgec then Nero etc.....I seriously appreciate it all being done at the click of a button.

When a user has an AVI split over two files, FilmMachine joins them very well (as long as audio sample rate is the same), but have you thought about looking into providing an option to append files? What I mean to say is, I would like the ability to be able to add several AVI's to one DVD from a TV series.

Thanks again for the cool App

This is on the wishlist, maybe it will be in the next version.

  15. Hey Mask,

Thanks for the program! I am new to all of this DVI to DVD stuff and there is no way that I would have had the time or patients to figure this out using all of the different programs that you would have to use. Your program is fantasitc, especially for us media beginners! It has taken me a coupla tries to get it close to right but I am getting there. I have to use the free version of CCE to encode becasue of the cost issue, it puts that blue box with their logo in the right hand corner, but it is better than nothing.

Again thanks and keep up the good work
