no it won't speed up the scanning speed , unless the previous USB Port you had , had some kind of problem , if not it will be the same speed.
only USB2 Devices can take advantage of the extra speed in USB 2.0

Can anyone offer some advice
If I attach a USB device (an Epson scanner) to a USB2 port, will that automatically speed up the scanning speed compared to the current USB1 connection or does the device itself have to be USB2 enabled
Any input appreciated

Unfortunately I suspected that would be the case - but thanks for your advice
oxygen99 is right on the money.
Sadly, USB 1.1 chipsets are not flash capable and are not upgrade capable via a firmware patch.
BTW, a USB 1.1 will work on a USB 2.0 connection and will run at its fastest capable speed (due to USB 2.0's backward capability). But, if you have another USB 2.0 device on the same connection, it is likely that this faster USB 2.0 device will be slowed down.
