      Antivirus personal test (unprofessional)

I did test various antivirus software with 28 virus, some zipped, some not, etc...

All antivirus were udated before scanning and these were the results:

      AVG 6.0 18 virus
      Norton 2002 28 virus
      Kaspersky 28 virus
      NOD32 27 Virus, missed Win32.Jimmy
      PCCillin 2002 27 Virus, missed pet_tick

I repeat, this test is UNPROFESSIONAL, I only want to share with all of you this personal info.

      Greetings

      Thumbs up

Thanks anyway for sharing your "personal" virus-test

it could be great for have a little idea about fews antivirus 'power'...for newbie person.

Personally, my critére selection is based mainly on:
      - good database virus insive
      - easy update module integration (with fresh data every days)
      - And (most important) the POWER of the Virus-scanner!
which "should" able to detect virus (or trojan) also behind an packed executable (like aspack, pecompact,...etc) and most archived files too ! (rar,zip,ace...etc)

well, just with theses critére, i think it's enough for me to stay protected against common attacks... i don't care anymore who is behind the "antivirus" (expect Norton! i hate it!) all i would see is the "RESULT" lol

about your test, my favorite choose go at:
      - AVP & NOD32...

      Hi,

Personnaly i think 'AVAST' is not enough good to be used as 'standalone' anti virus without another antivirs or anti troj support installed.

I've been tested 'AVAST' with packed and crypted Trojan serveur, and it cannot be able to detect it unlike AVP with his 'Code analyser fonction' + 'heuristic mode'.

However, since the version v.4 of AVP,
I don't uses it any more because of 'importante' resources needed. I prefered the old v3.x version with just updated virus database.

For now, I will test AVK (AntivirenTool kit) from G-Data
      Seem be very interesting !

I wait to reforme my HD before install it and test it.

      ps:
      Gorez ?? lol

am i the only one on ther forum that uses symantec antivirus corp 8? Personally, i think this prog is great, no conflict, no intervention with other programs, & not that resources consuming.

The bad result for AVG seems strange. It should be one of the top apps. I use F-Secure and it would be interesting to do the same test with it as well.

      Hi Mantra,

Well give a look at this AV comparaison chart under Trojan testing

      --
Sorry it's a french test, but easy to understand
Has you can see, the 1st place is.....AVK !! and AVP on the second place... (ok i know it's a old test but...)

Well, for more info regarding AVK, go at:

      hxxp://wxw.antiviruskit.com/
      --

Sorry but for now I cannot be able to find a '****' for this AV
Perhaps because it not so popular like Norton or AVP...
But i'm pretty sure it's so powerfull and even better

p0rkus, i too use NAV CE 8, and have no problems whatever. If I was not using 2000 or XP I would though - I remember that as unstable as the entire 9x code was, VXD errors out the yang and all, I would believe that Win95, 98, and Me are all malicious code.

Xianuro, would you test F-Secure and tell me if it's really good. I install it by the recomendations of the forum.

      Thankx

I've had blue screen problems with Norton's AV. Moved over to Bit Defender. I wonder how does it rank?

Anyone has a link for Norton 8 Corp?

Till now I have NOrton 2003, but I would love to have a tool taking less RAM.

      Thanks
      Raist
