Networking XP and 98SE Problem

I have 1 98SE system and want to network it to my XP network at home so I can get files to the 98 system from my main XP system that connects to the internet but when I run the Netsetup that was created when I ran the setup a network in XP it locks up my 98 system and I get no network. I just want my XP systems to see the 98 shared drive and use the internet connection on my main system. ANy help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem. What you have to do is create a account on the XP box that is the same user name and password as on the Win98 Box, and share what ever drive on the Win98 box..

That should solve your problem.

If you still can not see the 98 Box, type the full path (i.e. \\XP servername\shareddrivename\ on a short cut. That should do it.

You might also try installing Netbueui on both (I'm not sure whether those rotten b**tards took it off XP).

NetBEUI is on the XP CDs but has to be installed manually as it is no longer supported by MS.

Rather than using the networking wizard in XP try setting it up manually using Static IP addresses. There are many sites that can help with detailed instructions. try...
