liamoni, they are apps you use to take out all the junk from window$ systems/OSes and essentially making them into a Lite version (smaller).
98lite basically takes away some of the integration of IE and explorer and a fiew other things that really hog up the system.
Also generally makes the system more secure and reliable.
I expect XP-2000Lite will be something similar (and probably well worth the download sometime next year). I would not bother with the beta versions (something that plays with the heart of the OS is not something you want to fool around with or be testing right?).
