about kernel 2.6.1

hi
err seems i'm now stuck...after so many days of trial & error on this kernel,i managed to make my usb mouse,optical drives & sound card work
2.6.1 is different from the 2.4.22 kernel that i've tried b4,so using the config file for 2.4.22 i've made ain't useful
after some diggin,i found out that the cdrom modules are no longer found in /dev/ but in /dev/cdroms/ instead for mounting my optical drives & found a way to make my snd card works with its 4 channels.
now wat is bugging me is that my us robotics serial modem ain't workin coz the module /dev/modem no longer exists,so does tty modules....
i've probed the kernel options & found nothin to help me..so anyone can help?
