Knoppix is the real thingy. It is Debian with KDE 3. If you d/l from the _www.knopper.net/knoppix site with the latest update version, you may get support for your video card. So far I have had it run several ATI cards, and GForce as well. Even works with my wireless NIC in my Sony laptop. Impressive. If you cannot get X to work on your system, there are plenty of bootup options - try using a Framebuffer video driver. Great stuff to pack 1.7gB onto a compressed filesystem to run off of. Been using since late last year, and still impressed.
Think of it - a Web/FTP server running off a CD that cannot be hacked!
