Mandrake should find it on it's own!If not you could go to compaq's site and ask their support dept. The only drivers I've found are for WinME.Latest Pci modems are shipping with Linux support.
I have Mandrake on the 'other box' There is a facility in the control centre[I think] to scan for your modem.
On the side of the box it said "Install Windows XP or better" so I installed LINUX

A configuration for you PPP or SLIP should be in Control Center (root user).

If your modem doesn't have drivers for Linux or is an offbrand Winmodem, you can find pretty decent deals on modems with controllers or Intel or Lucent Winmodems on eBay or w*w.pricewatch.com

Microcom 56K internal Lucent - with Agere chipset is winmodem, so Linux, not only Mandrake recognize him, but it needs proprietal drivers for this modem. Fon advanced informations look at www.linmodems.org
