You can burn a VCD or SVCD that will PLAY in a DVD, but the electronic and optical characteristics of the 5 types of drive cannot be altered by software:
- CD-ROM - reads CDs, including burned media and RW for modern drives (no writing!)
- DVD-ROM - reads CDs and DVDs (no writing!)
- CD-RW - reads CDs, writes CD-R and CD-RW
- CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo - a 2 in 1 drive that functions as a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW
- DVD+/-R/W - A DVD writer... Can read DVD and CD, write CD-R/RW, and write the appropriate type of DVD media depending on the drive - +/- or both
Please include the name of the software used, and the identity of the drive as reported in device manager.
