The price of dvd-rs WAS coming down rapidly.
Unfortunately, there is a shortage as they cant keep up with the demand, so prices are creeping back up.
In the UK anyway.

Are blank DVD-r’s being kept at an artificially high price?
The cost of blank CD-r’s were very high when they first came out but now, well they are just dirt cheap, even the higher speed x40 and x48 speed disks are cheap. Just picked up a 50 spindle of 700Mb x48 speed, fully colored CD (including blue, black, purple, red, etc) for $12.
I’ve no doubt the cost of blank DVD-r media will drop but I wish it would hurry up!
I can’t imagine the manufacturing costs of producing blank DVD-r’s is that much different from producing blank CD-r’s, I just think it’s the manufacturers being overly greedy.
