      I found this:
      http://www.anonymizer.com/privatesurfing/

      and this:
      http://anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/index_en.html

I also read that anonymous proxy sites collect your info if you are involved in any potential illegal activity...nothing is private!!

      Exclamation

I remember reading about that one P2P app that supposudly kept people's info anonymous and private.
And, what, 2 Japanese guys get busted? Even while using the "Winny" anonymous file-sharing network. Worked real well, huh?

My search for that brought me upon http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/32533.html
Atleast JAP is trying to work this stuff out.
So yeah, it does appear anonymous proxies do log your info, and can still hand that info over to the authorities.

You can always try an anonymous proxy (There are tons of lists of them on the net, it just takes a little searching to find some that still work). Though how secure that would be, I won't guarantee.

You can also try something like The Proxomitron, which won't exactly mask your IP, but it block sending stuff like referrer headers, fake user agents, block malicious java script, stop cacheing, stop meta tags, stop web bugs, block cookies —its capable of most anything.
      http://www.proxomitron.info/
      May help somewhat.

Proxomitron can also use a list of anonymous proxies - and it was the acrimonious fallout when the feature had a bug, that ultimately resulted in the developer giving up due to unhelful comments by ungrateful users.

Mind you, a problem with anon proxies, is that they could be traps set by people out to steal or trace your data, or if accidentally made available outside, may be withdrawn.

If you PAY for an anonymous proxy service, then you are still taking them on trust, and the fact that money changes hands also leaves it's own trail.

Not sure if the various "multiproxy" software around can actually form a passage through a CHAIN of proxies

      http://www.multiproxy.org/multiproxy.htm
Not a chain, but a randomizer, so greatly reduces your footprint on any one proxy (though increases the number that COULD rat on you).

You cannot ever be 100% secure against tracking, but you can make it harder and more expensive to persue ... If you shot the President - they'd use all possible means to track you.

Proxyrama is a tool for finding and testing proxy servers. it will test them for anonymity, speed, if it's a gateway proxy, 'connect' support (=chainability), socks 4/5 support and geographical location. furthermore, it can be used as a local proxy server that redirects your traffic through a arbitrarily long chain of anonymous proxies and let's you skip images, multimedia crap, ads, popups etc.
it is small, fast, and easy to use and FREE. http://gaamoa.deny.de/

Now if some software use JAVA APPLET, you can´t be anonymous,
java applet works on your pc and get your ip from your network properties.
For MSN you can use a SOCKS 4 or 5 proxy to hide your IP. Or use sockscap and put the MSN exe into it. http://www.socks.permeo.com/

Your second link (JAP) is probably the best anonymizer available currently.

Is not bad idea to use "Calamity" http://rhino.deny.de/calamity.php for scaning and removing the "bad" and "dodgy" IP ranges like: FBI Linux server (used to trap scanners), Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications, Anti Pirat Gruppen, European Space Operations Center, Naval Weapons Center, BSA.org, Department of Defense and more......
Here is an updated list of them:
