After flashing my EPO-8216 DVD-ROM using the MSI D16 (MS-8216B) 1.1 RPC1 firmware flasher, my BIOs no longer recognizes the drive. My system will not boot if the dead drive is plugged in, whether if the drive is disabled in BIOs or not, so I have to let the system finish POST first, then plugin the drive... :P
So I tried to reflash using MtkFlash, and the flasher seems to hang and won't flash the drive. I also tried using Combo Flash, and same thing, it hangs. And because of the hangs, I tried flashing on another system. That system seems to boot fine with the dead drive, but still, the flasher will hang when read/writing the firmware.
I currently have a backed up BIN file firmware for my DVD-ROM, does anybody have any idea what I could do to make the drive working again? Do I need a special flasher?, Erase the firmware?, or is my drive DEAD that I can not recover it?
Thanks everyone!![]()

Which version? - if using the Win version, try the DOS and vice-versa - just make damn sure you don't take out another drive with it - IDE port mode is russian roulette, so make sure you know where the drive is!

I took a look around and found no firmware for that drive but you can always email their tech support and see if you can get them to send you something. services@epo.com.tw Or since the drive is dead already you can try to flash it with one of these and see if it will come back to life.

It's worth a try.
i would suggest here that you disconnect any other rom drives apart fromt he one you are trying to flash this avoids accidental cross flashing of the wrong drive![]()
Thanks everyone for your replies...
You are right, there isn't any EPO-8216 firmware on the RPC1 site, but lucky me I got a backup... Anyways, the Teco 8216 firmware is OK for my drive...
I tried to flash using MtkWinFlash, and the results is kind of the same: Could not detect flash type... :?
Anyway to force it to flash??...
Ummm... besides Windows and DOS, any alternative?
Thanks everyone for the comments...
hmmmm dos usually tends to be the best choice for flashing firmware !?
Yes, that's what I think also...
But unfortunately MtkFlash seems to hang with my drive in DOS...
Does it make a difference using different computers though?
