      windows xp crashing

I hope someone can help ..... I have recently installed windows xp professional and find that sometimes after downloading certain programmes I get the BLUE SCREEN / STOP and have to quickly turn off the computer and when I switch it back on all seems well. Last month I had it happen but could not re-boot or restart the computer in windows. Finally I gave up, called in an engineer who had to format my hard drive and reinstall everything. Any suggestions would be gratefully apprecated.

Any chance it might be a screwed codec??I had probs with nero after installing WMP9 cause of the roxio cd burning plugin.Had 2 get a regisrty block 4 the plugin so it didnt get installed.Did U try system restore as i think that is the way micros****e syas 2 uninstall it

Nothing worse than havin 2 pay 2 get machine setup again after dodgy softwareIts pretty easy 2 setup WinXP itself. Most of the process is automated

No Probs RastaBt.I learn from the best, so just wanna help back.Kepp up the good work bro

luckydog: It may be a badly installed soundcard driver. The next time you get a blue screen search for the Windows dump file (located at the root of your active partition), zip it and attach it here- it will help troubleshooting.
