i've been told the buslink is made by liteon but a different company sells it.

I would go for the LiteOn m8, even though the Buslink might be made by LiteOn I'm sure that the firmware will still be different. The one area the LiteOn thrives in is constant firmware updates to improve it's compatability with all of the latest media.

I'm on my 3rd Litey now (None have expired, I've just upgraded for speed) and would not think about getting anything else myself.

thanks laz.. i was leaning on buying the liteon also, but i'm a bit hesitant on buying big things online. so i'm thinking on getting the buslink which some people online have said i can flash using liteon firmwares as they come out. Arrg hopefully i make up my mind before these deals end. lol @ poncho & serjer. btw laz did you buy yours online or at a local store.

I buy online, I noticed that the links were for New Egg.com. When I was in the US a few months back I bought a fair bit of stuff from them to build some systems whilst there, excellent service & price.

I'd get the Buslink (being a Lite-On fan, BTW). You cannot go much wrong with it for 30 measly bucks- I cannot buy even a cheap CD-ROM for that price here.

If I were you I'd go for the lite-on. I converted over to lite-on from plextor last year. I bought a plex 40x cdrw and it made alot of coasters. Even after the firmware updates. But since I got the 52x lite-on I haven't had one coaster with this drive and it got even better after the firmware upgrades.

well my hopes of getting the liteon just went out the window.. it seems like it requires 128mb of Dram memory.. when my pc has 440mb sdram memory..

      52x 24x 52x CD-RW Drive LTR - 52246S
      System Requirement :
CPU Pentium 166MHz or faster, 128MB DRAM required
HDD must have access time < 20ms, with a minimum of 100MB Free space
      Compatibility :
      Windows 95 / 98 / NT / ME / XP / 2000

this one fits my pc better
      24x 10x 40x CD-RW Drive LTR - 24102B / 24103S

      System Requirement :
CPU Pentium 166MHz above, Memory 32MB Required; 64MB Recommanded
      Compatibility :
      Windows 95 / 98 / NT / ME / XP / 2000

      and the saga goes on...
