      Scanner

Hi recently I've been thinking about getting a scanner. However funds prohibited this. So a freind tells me that he'll give me a brand new scanner, nerver used. For free. So I said whats the catch? Cuz we all know there is one. He tells me that theres only one. It has no glass in it.

So here is my question. Can I to my local hardware store and buy a cut peice of glass for it? And if so do you think it will have any effect on the quility?

You could try it, but it will have an effect. The glass in a scanner is a little enhanced for your scanner (more opticaly pure, anti-reflective coating, and other coatings that may filter or enhance the scanning lamp). It is NOT standard hardware store glass.

Have you tried the manufacturer to see how much it would be to replace? If you did the replacement yourself, the costs probably won't be so bad.

In the end, I guess you have to ask yourself how important accurate colors and sharpness are to you as it will effect the quality.

A regular piece of glass would "almost" certainly not do.
