      error when booting

      just installed a second hard drive thanx to help form cdrsoft rather effectively. however when ever i boot up i get an error message which reads , incompatable drive press f1 to cintinue. when i press f1 it boots up lush and runs with no probs. anyone help me stop the message please... running an gigabyte motherboard and a 700 duron processor with xp pro

      its hard to help with limited information..is the drive new...been formatted...set proper to Master or Slave....IDE..or PCI Card IDE...How is the bootup set in the Bios (auto-detect)??

      jroc my original hd is set to master and the new is set to slave, and they are both on the same cable, sa for auto detect im not sure. should it be on or off? thanx

      daveml ive just rebooted and went into set up and auto detect seems to be on,the error i get say incompatable drive atapi or words to that effect, any ideas? please. as i havnt got a clue

      Try your drives as masters & ROMS/CDRW as slaves always works for me

      a general note here is that any cd rom or cdrw or dvd drive should be connected on the very end of an ide cable !? seems to work best for nearly everyone i know and the rest of the devices in any other order after the cd drive
