      multi-burner-hardware-problems [help please]

      i have 4 plextor 12x10x32a
      and 2 promise100-controllers
but the burners where not detected all together by the controllers.
i have testet rounded cables, but only one more burner was detected (two and the dvd instead of only one), not all four.

      what would help?
      shielded, rounded cables?
      different bios-settings?

      all help is welcome!

Not sure that writers and promise controllers are a particularly happy combination.

You do have them in correct master/slave configuration, I presume - both the drives, and the Ultra-ATA cables which have colour coded connectors - though if the drives are not Ultra, using standard IDE cables might help

For what its worth i to have the promise card and the 121032 plex, when the plex is connected to the ATA promise card its ability to copy CD,s is compromised. This i found out by copying a protected disc first with it connected to the IDE 2 on the motherboard then to the ATA card. The result being that the copy made on the IDE worked perfectly but the one on the ATA card would not. I have no real explanation for this. The only clue may be something to do with the machine seeing the Plex as a scsi drive when connected to the controller card (this is seen in device manager). Anyone got any better ideas.
Oh by the way i ran this test twice with the same result.

I haven´t found the reason but the same thing that happend to FlyingSparks I´ve seen it in at least two systems.

fakeraol if you´re trying to connect two plexs on the same channel of the Promise you´ll never get them to work, there´s some kind of bug with the controler that won´t aloud them to be detected, besides even if you could get them to be detected this would not work well since you would be sharing one chanel for two drives, anyway if you want to give it a try, use the mobo ide controler for your burners and the promise for everything else, just set your bios to boot from the Promise.

      @weboneando

      read here: http://www.cdrbase.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11369

i asked for the abit-controllers and i got the hint:
"My suggestion is that you change your controllers for any model made by Promise Technologies."
      from you.
i have connected every burner as master to the controllers.
i have read about people, witch got such systems running.
if not the promisse-controllers, witch ones definitely will do the job?

You should try an Acard IDE/Atapi controller if you want to use burners on it. Promise controllers are good only for hard drives, as the above posts suggest.

fakeraol get the dvd out of the Promise controller and leave only the burners in those, set the dvd with the mobo ide controller and this should work, I´ve done this with systems that are still working.

The thing that happend to FlyingSparks seems to be something related with copy protection: I haven´t been able to copy any safedisc protected cd with this systems, but still not sure this is it.

      For information:
I don´t think this is the problem but you´re running an AMD system, the systems that I have running with this configurations are INTEL with INTEL chipsets in the mobo.

Also if the controllers have bios check the settings in both of them and get the latest bios version.

Another one: get the aspi layer 4.60 (you can find it here at the forum).

If you install both controllers with no drives attached, are they well detected in windows?

Let me know what results you get and I´ll do my best to help you.

By the way I´ve read wrong in this thread and thought that you were connecting four burners to one controller, thats what I was talking about above, sorry my mistake.

Wenoneando, I have an Intel mainboard, a Promise ATA-100 TX2 controller, Windows 2000/XP or whatever, and no luck at all with any ATAPI device hooked on the Promise. At best the device is recognized by OS, and burns coasters at 2-4X.

      Pentium III 500
      SE440bx-2
      256 Mb sdram
      2- Promise Fast Track 100
      4- Plextor 121032a
1- 30 Gb HD quantum connected to mobo ide
1- Pioneer dvd-105f connected to mobo ide

This is one of the systems that I´m talking about, can´t tell if the model of the controllers has something to do, I haven´t used the new models from Promise.
