      sketchy CD-ROM

      my friend has a HP omnibook with a sketchy CD-ROM drive that reads CD-Rs or RWs about 25 bercent of the time and some manufactured cds wont even work. I have tweaked the POT it worked once and then it got worse. is there something in the BIOS or windows i may have to change. BTW the cdrom drive is a TORiSAN(now sanyo...i think) CDR240U.Thanx for the help.

      Windows XP Pro, Intel Celeron 850 mhz processor, 256 megs of PC100 RAM, Lite-on Dual Format SOHW 812s DVD RW Drive.
