JAP had an "interesting" time, with a loophole being added a while back - though if you read all the reports, it looks unlikely that this would happen again, since it couldn't be kept quiet.

Naviscope has also been regarded with great suspicion in alt.comp.freeware - though the more alarmist reports never quite seemed to be backed up with solid evidence - and it looks like whatever was behind Naviscope, is now dead anyway.

Basically an offline downloader for websites - better than IE does.
Some websites DO take a very dim view of such "gluttonous downloading" - and you may find your IP blocked.

Another problem with bulk downloading websites, is that you may bite off far more than you intended!

Ultimate Zip blotted it's copybook with those in alt.comp.freeware - it displays an ad in the spalsh/nag screen. Apart from that. a damn good zip program , but there's many to choose from.

Status given as ADWARE here http://www.webattack.com/get/ultimatezip.html

http://www.webattack.com/Freeware/downloader/fwzip.html - a big list
7-Zip (version now at 3.11) gives you the capability to use a high compression "solid" archive format, without having to pay for RAR or ACE

IZARC also supports 7Z - in a more "normal" looking archiver

PS. Beware "Handybits"
http://www.handybits.com/privacy.htm - their products install a "parasitic updater" which has been known to be impair stability, and hooks itself into the system in a rather dishonest manner (ties to rightclck handler, and re-inserts into startup if removed) - the folder for this crap also has a file with dire warnings about removal.

Their update servicice control tool is HERe
http://www.handybits.com/update_service.asp
Not easy to find unless you know where to look.

Adware?? I`ve owned this program for some time now and I`ve never noticed any ads in the splash screen.Unless you count that brief "message from our sponsors" from xtserver.com at the start. It must be on screen all of half a second.I could name you a thousand other programs with adware which are a million times more annoying than that (e.g. Opera,Flashget...etc.) But at least it`s not spyware!

@PLEXTORMAN that was not a complaint but ....more of a POINTING OUT that technically we all know that certain things are still copywrite even if it is just images on a web page ...the page author still has copywrite on the ideas etc within the page

You could argue that Ie Caches the pages too but thats another story bud ...keep up the good work

The alt.comp.freeware newsgroup maintains probably the most EXTREMIST position on freeware possible, and also differentiates between freeware and "registerware" - and calls anything "crippleware" if it displays or hints at features only available in the pro version.

@VIPER_1069 Thanks for the praise,Viper.I understand what you`re saying about copyright,(and showing respect to the page author,I might add.. ),but I just thought I`d share my findings with the good people on this forum...
