For best quality use a frontend for lame called razorlame http://www.dors.de/razorlame/index.php there are some good alternatives too,but since you are just starting,this proggy(frontend)will let you easy configure everything....Lame encoder you can find at www.hydrogenaudio.org Check for ""recomended compile"""..its a lame3.90.3
Also you can encode it with a foobar,winamp.....lots of proggys can do...feurio too....

Or to come straight from CD - "Exact Audio Copy" - http://www.exactaudiocopy.de - and use the command line LAME encoder, or the modified DLL version (see Hydrogenaudio) that maps certain quality settings to the highly tuned alt-presets
