Current reports give the lead to Blu-Ray, though more accurately, conventional DVD leads by a landslide.

Wal-Mart could well be the deciding factor, though home consumers may take some convincing that it's worth paying the extra for hardware and content compared to DVD, though larger screens with HD capability may provide some pull to upgrade associated equipment to HD.
Actually, based on the names:
* You have a HD-ready screen, so you get a HD-DVD player to go with it.
* Blu-Ray? Why should I care what colour the ray is?
The worst of it, is it looks like it will polarise... HD-DVD for those who see no further than the magic two letters, while Blu-ray recording drives are already out for computers, and unless recordable HD makes some sort of showing in that field soon, it could be a walkover for Blu-ray.
It's gonna be VHS versus Betamax, +R versus -R - all over again!
