Ou la la! Big problems LG 4167

Hi, I use to have a dru510A bought on the net who didn't work when it arrived. Came on this site, did a couple of thing to fix it(probably to many) a suddenly started to work. I ha d to reinstall windows and then the dvd writer stopped working (Burns CD, DRV-RW, reads find, but didn't write on DVD-r). So I decided to change it for a LG 4167B witch seems to give me same problems, but it doesn't write on anything DVD. The media seems fine beacause I used to write on those with the Sony (Maxell DVD-R max 4X). I tried evertythin, installed the ASPI layer, updated Nero, but Nero still doesn't recognize the DVDs. I think I need help!

      thankx

this means nothing what worked on your sony DOES NOT mean they will work on your LG 4167B

try a different more reliable brand of media such as the forum favorite RITEK G05

when you installed aspi did you use FORCE ASPI to install it !?

did you disable windows IMAPI burning software theres a guide how to disable this if you search the forum for IMAPI

      Well...

I used the aspii program from adaptec website, but unfortunatly I don't think its the same thing. Second, "yes" I did remove the imapi burning utility of windows. I'll try forceaspii.

The thing is, nero doesn't want to tell me what kind of media i'm putting in. It is just continously checking the media even dough I try putting different kinds in it... even dough I forceaspi as you told me...

It doesn't seem to be reading any DVD anyway. What do you think is wrong? I really don't understand...

No No... sorry...it wasn't clear. When I put anything else than a régular data CD (a standard DVD for example). There seems to be nothing in the drive. Windows doesn't see it anymore. It use to this morning dough. Decripter tells me there is no media or that the device isn't ready. Is there something I haven't done?

maby check your drive settings for master and slave settings check that its not conflicting with any other drives by checking the jumpers on the back of the drive

When I installed it, I made it secondary master and I've disconnected the other DVD drive (No power supply). From that point of vue, everything seems to be juste fine, the problem seems to be software!

During post, does your drive show up and is it correctly identified? Could be you might need to try a firmware update.

The drive appears and is well identified like a dvd ram, but is only reading standard cds, not reading dvd nor writing them.

Do you use any "region hack" utility, or a media duplicator which tries to hide the disk ATIP? (Alcohol, CloneDVD...).

I'm not sure I understand you question. what is the difference between the two. For your information: I've been to the store and changed it since it was defective. Now, whit the new one, I'm able to write a DVD-RW in windows safe mode only (and the DVD isn't working). I even uninstalled Norton Antivirus and stopped every process I could. In windows, the problem is that it starts writing but the it jams and doesn't progress afterwards. The whole windows platform also jams and doesn't respond anymore...

So it cannot be the drive since I've ckecked it at the store, and the problem is probably coming from my computer, so could you give me some advices on what I should do.
