Last night I uninstalled something, I think it was "Instant CD"?? By doing this I have removed a device driver which has made my drives dead. They still work obviously but windows does not recognise them, any ideas on how I get back whatever it is is lost?

Also check if a program named "Pinnacle driver checker" or something pretty close to that name still runs at system startup and changes the registry entries. If it is running then stop/disable it.
A convenient way to find what's running at startup is Mlin's Startup Control Panel (small, free and reliable).
