I still have a pioneer 105 but i will go for a new writer when 8x DL burning drives are available. (and cheap blanks of course)

      I would prefer a LG or a LiteOn drive (SD-copyprotection )

I'm beginning to think it's a better idea to have (if you aren't short of drive bays), an excellent DVD writer for DVDs, and an excellent CD Writer, instead of relying on one drive that may be rather average in all tasks - and in some cases, they may also be able to cover each others shortcomings.

The Pioneer 103, 4, 5, 6 & 7 CANNOT burn DL media, it is only the latest 108 that can. At $12 each for DL media, who cares where they can be had
      Cheers,

      Liteon LDW-851S & Liteon SOHW-832S

Liteon LDW-851S & Liteon SOHW-832S. Both are working very well, but I haven't checked out the DL burning ability of the 832S yet because of the simple reason that I haven't been able to afford/justify the purchase of 1 single blank yet fot this burner.

Guys, a fanfare please! Seems i'm a legit DVDR Base member now, because my LG GSA-4120B arrived today.
Didn't have the time to test it really. Will provide my experiences later.

Thumbs up Pioneer dvr 108 - thank you

Pleased as can be with my new 108.
Disk writing problems with HL GSA4120B are no more. (look out eBay)
Disk read problems on home cinema system are non existent.
Thanks to the forum I finally made a correct choice in a writer.
Such solid recording on five different media makes. Ifeel spoiled.
