Gotta say that this seems to be the best firmware update yet for the 411s

      Firmware id

Oookaaay, stupid question #1. How do I identify the firmware version residing in my November manufactured LDW-411s?
#2. Everything is working fine without any glitches. Need I bother upgrading the firmware?
#3. What are the possibilities of screwing it up?
#4. Would a screwed eprom be easily recoverable?

      1. Use Smartburn from Liteon homepage, and some burning app's also give you this info.
2.If all is running fine leave it alone...(odd's are you have one of the lastest update's anyway!
3.If you don't read the instruction's and understand them I you can screwing it up.
4... Yes if there person know's what their doing.
      Tanx You!

As is usual for me, I read your kind advice and then continued further down and read your "motto". This seemed like an excellent attitude for the intrepid so I reflashed my firmware from FS02 to FS0F (Liteon LDW-411S) Everything went swimmingly until I performed the required reboot. Winxp did its thing and detected and recognized the new drive. As it continued to on its merry way installing drivers and such, the system totally crashed. Upon its subsequent restart and file check it listed so many conflicts on C: they are too many to list. I have tried uninstalling much of the software that was in conflict but still no joy as it has interfered with the prefetch and system restore files in xp as well. I am not happy as the firmware cannot be rolled back according to the Liteon site. Has anyone else had this joyous experience and how did you fix it?

An update to my previous post. I used almost every tool in the WinXp box, to no avail. I ended up having to reformat C: and re-install WinXp. This fixed the problem so, anyone upgrading the firmware for their Liteon LDW-411S should be aware. Having said that, the drive seems to be smoother on playback.

That's a Liteon drive is it? If so I'd redownload from another source. Mine was totally self extracting. FS0F seems to be a good upgrade on mine. Freaked me out when the computer crashed on reboot but the flash happened.

Hi, this is my first post on this forums, I'm from Caracas, Venezuela; I hope help to others, please be patient on my first days .

I've a Liteon LDW-401S and it's DVD+R only, can I use this driver to convert it to a dual (DVD+R/DVD-R) burner?

      Any help will be welcome,
      Thanks,
      Jean H//
