question about 106 firmware (1.07)

i got the drive, and flashed the firmware, but i have noticed no improvement in ripping speed. Supposedly the new firmware lets you do it at 12x?? anyone know if there is something i need to do? TIA!

I noticed a nice speed increase bud.

However, you need to give us some details. You computer speed, OS, configuration of the drive, bla bla.

Also make sure your drive is not in PIO mode in your IDE controllers settings. Mine was PIO by default and after I set it to DMA, then and only then did the speed increase in ripping and burning.

ok, heres the specs.
P4 2.6, xp, 80gig maxtor as a slave that i rip to, 512 ram.
Drive is set as a slave to my other CD drive.

I just checked, and the drive is set to "DMA if available" in the manager.

Is it possible the program i got did not actually update the firmware?
I ran it, and the drive showed activity(no disc in it) and it said sucess, so i just assumed it worked.

Try this utility... Nero InfoTool V2.07 link. It will tell you whether DMA is enabled and what firmware your drive is running.

Also try setting your Pioneer as the Master and even solo if you can. If your other drive is slow, it can and will slow down your Pioneer.

cool. It must be my other drive, it is an 8x HP CDR from like 2001.

You will only get upto 12X rip on a single layer pressed dvd,dual layer disc you should get up to 6x

Not sure what to say. You tried this drive on it's own without your old & slow CD drive? You confirmed that DMA is on? The DVD you are ripping is clean and scratch free?
