Is the Lite-on 401 dual format???

      Hey all,

I've come here because I want to know if I can make my Lite-on 401 DVD-R drive a dual format like the 411???

Now I went to cd freaks to find the answer but those guys are confusing, they just can't make up there minds.

So here I am in the only place I know which give straight simple answers.
      Thanx

    2. Talking 401s/411s single layer burners

no, both the 401s/411s are single layer (dvdrw+) burners (hence the "s" subclass), and are quite speedy compared to the 400D & 440D (dvdrw+/-) dual burners.

has anybody out there had any experience with the 400D & 440D (dvdrw+/-) dual burners?

Yesterday there was a discussion going on at cdfreaks forum where somebody posted the 411s firmware along with its eeprom. Several peeps tried upgrading and reported back that their drives was wrecked, seems to have something to do with manufacture date.
So at this point in time its not (even remotely) advisable to try upgrading the 401s.

But, none the less the drive is able to function quite well (imho) with the 411s firmware and eeprom.

Suffice to say I was one of the lucky ones

This statement is false. I own a LDW-411s and from the factory it does both formats. I've not modified it in any way. I spent the extra $30.00 because I couldn't afford to try this experament.
