      Question burn speed

I have a Pioneer 106 dvd drive with a write speed of 4x, can I use a slower media if I use a slower write speed? also when burning audio Cd's I get a loud rasping sound on playback?

".......can I use a slower media if I use a slower write speed? "

      offcourse u can...
your writer doesnīt allow to burn "slower" media at higher speeds ...so u donīt need to be afraid to set the wrong writing speed. --> u canīt burn 2x media @ 4x speed ...

but u can burn faster discs @ lower speed

Some writers (I dont know if the 106 is) decide what they will burn at so on crap 4x they may burn @2x & U can flash Firmware to make a burner burn 1x @ 2 speed <> there is a RPC firmware to do this for the 106 I believe - certainly one for the 105.

hmm...RPC is just the region protection code i think ... nothing to do with the writing speed ...

I donīt know exactly but I donīt think that the writer decides anything lol .. the media must be certified for certain speeds... I think the patch u mean is the gradius firmware patch ... it enables the writer to burn 1x media at 2x ...
u r always able to burn media at lower speeds ...

If you visit http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/, you can get the Pioneer DVR-106 v1.07 RPC-1 + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip firmware patched for the 106. Works well.

I know that one cause Iīm using it myself .. but any way Region free and 2x4all has nothing to do with each other ...

      v1.33
there are two versions out .. one that enables 12x ripping (like ip dave said) but for the A05. I noticed that Princo 1x doesnīt burn at 2x anymore after flashing to this one ... seems that they have added some other brand (Ritek / leadData)at cost of . princo
