I installed a Cendyne Nec-1100A dvd+r drive, and it burns dvd's, reads cd's, etc. The problem is when I try to burn a cdr or cdrw, Nero 5.5 won't recognize the drive as a cd burner, only showing a virtual drive. I've tried Hi-val CD Right also, and same problem. The drive is capable of burning cdr's, but I can't access it for that purpose. I'm running W 2000 Pro. Any ideas? Thanks.

it seems you are yousing a Nero version/serial which came bundled with an other drive and not with your NEC; so you can only use Nero with the bundled drive;Originally Posted by blabbaboo

You're not the only one having troubles burning CD's on a 1100A,
mine doesn't burn them also. Started a threat but no solution sofar.
I reinstalled my system because the HD crashed....![]()

A fresh install didnot do the trick also.
Is it something to do with the hardware combination ?
I own a ASUS AMD motherboard with nVidia chipset and soundcard onboard.
Check yours and see if there's a common issue.
I just saw this thread because I just bought a Cendyne DVD+R (CDIC00225, or same as NEC ND-1100A). Those that have this issue should download Aspi4All, and use version 4.60 of the ASPI layer. I have flattened and reloaded WinXP on so many systems by now that, everytime I have a problem with burning a CD or DVD, I thump myself on the forehead and ask myself if I remembered to load ASPI.
