Question Update Pioneer 105 to 106 by firmware???

Hi, I heard today that the 105 and 106 are the same drive, and that the 105 can write dvd+r with a firmware update.
Does anyone know if this is true or just B.S from a retailer trying to shift his stock of over bought 105's ?

I have a 104 myself, but as 105's are for nothing these days it would be worth the update if it's true.

      Regards

      Nik

      Cheers, I thought so.
      I thought dvd-r and dvd+r used different lazers...either thickness
or intensity or something like that.I read somewhere that dvd-r used a Xnm lazer (Xbeing a figure of about 300 or something ) and +r used a XYnm lazer (xy being a different figure to -r)
      Can't remember the exact figures.

      Laters

Ps you reckon the 105 is a better buy than the 106?

      Can get em here

And the Teac rebadged 105 at SVP for £109

Cheers mate, after my mate bought his 105 I realized that his 4x burns were as good if not better than my 2x burns.
      I might invest.

      Gotta crash, work at 6am.

      Thanks for the info

the 106 is great with Princo media, I have the Iomega Dual DVD writer and the Pioneer 106....both retail, the Iomega hates Princo as most DVD writers do, the Pioneer just sings with joy, and 4 x princos are cheap

Sorry to burst your bubble but here in Oz most wholesalers are dumping ( emphasis on DUMPING ) Prince 4X media as fast as they can get rid of it 'cause they're crap. Don't know if Princo have dumped they're rejects here ,but the number of faulty burns/burn errors is major using these disks.
