Question sorry it's the 105 again please help

      Hello all

I have just ordered my 105(oem not a05) and am getting ready for it to arrive. A few questions i need answering or suggestions please.

      i'm running

win2k pro (sp3 - seems fine and stable)
      512 ddr pc2100
      2 x 40gig
      1 x 20gig (with os on)
      1 x Plextor 48x writer
1 x dvd rom (pionner old one)
      1 x Lite-on 48x writer
      1 x pci ata card
      ecs k7s5a mobo

i intend on swapping the dvd rom for the 105

      right questions are

      1. Is a standard cable (the one already attached to my dvd rom) ok to use or do you need a special cable? and should it be a certain place on the cable. (should it be my primary slave/secondary master etc....)

      2. What special settings do i need to do or is it just plug in use?

      3. What is the best software for drag and drop file backups.

      4. what is the best software for backing up my dvd's to dvd-r

      5. Have i made a good choice (£114 inc vat which i thought was cheap)

      6. are there any other things to consider when i install this drive?

sorry for all the questions and some of which may already have been asked/answered on the forum but i would be here forever trying to locate them.

Hope you can help (i have complete faith in the forum)

flyby2001 out (waiting for it to arrive, come on postie you bas%£"d hurry up)

      I am a pioneer 105 owner.

      1. I use a standard cable

      2. It´s plug and play but control if dma is enabled.

      3. Sorry i don´t use software like incd or directcd...i heard that direct cd should be fine.

      4. oh my god ...dvd5 to dvd5..dvd-decrypter freeware in iso mode

for dvd 9 to 5...you will find a lot opinions here in the forum but the most people are using dvd-shrink and instant copy...i prefer dvd95copy.

      5. i think yes...what should i say as a 105 owner

      6.
Maybe it will be usefull to have aspi 4.60/1021.
A setting as secondary master would be fine too

      @ flyby2001,

Congratulations on your Pioneer DVR-105 purchase.

If you are unaware there is a “hacked” firmware for the Pioneer DVR-105 that will make it region free, allows 2 speed writing for all and uncaps the ripping speed limitations. To obtain information about the available firmware visit The Firmware Page (http://forum.firmware-flash.com/portal.php) and look in the DVD-R/Ram/+RW forum.

To backup up your DVD’s to DVD-R there are a couple of programs available. DVD2one, CloneDVD, DVDXCopy Xpress and DVDShrink are good programs and are surprising simple to use. Of the programs listed DVDShrink v2.3 is free.

      Regards,
      Coaster

@flyby2001 why don't you remove one of the burners and leave your dvd rom drive in...
This way you can rip from your dvd rom drive.

      thanks all

thanks for the input you have all had.

The option of removing a cd burner is one i have thought about with the price of em these days not worth re-selling. The dvd rom i have is a very old pionner one i think it is a 114 (it's got patched firmware and is reliable).

i will just have to work out which is best for my system.

do i remove the plex writer or the lite-on? another choice to make.

anyways thanks once again and take it easy you lot

The 105 is a good reader of dvd discs altho not as fast as some liteon etc dvdroms.
It will read some discs others struggle with.
