      Question DVD pc burners!!

Starting to think about buying a dvd burner..And i need those thing streinghten up.....1.).Can regular dvd readers in pcs read all formats??I heard they can??--2.).So if my pc dvd reader,or standalone cheapo dvd player can play dvdram,+,-,which mean all formats, why its better to buy dvdburner which supports 2 formats like sony???,when i can buy cheaper 1 format dvd recorder--couse all readers will play it anyway???3.).If i buy that pioneer ao5(really cheap here ) and compatiblle media for that drive--is that mean that when i record a movie with it--and give it to my friends--they will all be able to see it??3 questions--but actually just one--but important for me......And last one;My priority is hd backup and music--Which format is recomended for this(do i need that sony for that,or that pioneer is suitablle for that??

      1) Not always.
      2) The chances of your standalone reading DVD-RAM are pretty low.
If you are only ever going to use one format then there is NO point in buying a dual format drive like the Sony.
      3) Probably.

DVD-RAM is the best format for data backup/storage.

And especially now that M$ have made an about turn and decided to now support DVD-R as well as DVD+R dual-format makes even less sense really especially as "-R" discs are so much cheaper. But if you can get a dual-format drive for the same price then go for it.
