Question Which DVD Burner is best ?

      Hi All

Am thinking of getting a DVD Burner but which one ?
Do I go for the Dual format Sony or the cheaper Pioneer 105 ?

I intend to use it for data & "Backing up" my DVD's

Also which software is the best ?

      Many THX

I have the external Sony Dru500A and am quite happy with its performance. I use Nero for most burning purposes, including dvd backups and have never had problems with it.

      @ Hag,

I have a Pioneer DVR-105 and a Sony DRU-500AX and have found both a quality product. The Pioneer DVR-105 is about ½ the cost of the Sony DRU-500AX. With the new Pioneer DVR-105 v1.30 RPC-1+2xDVD-R+12xRip Firmware I believe the Pioneer DVR-105 is better price value over the Sony DRU-500AX. The Sony DRU-500AX is more versatile in that in can record both the (-) minus and (+) plus media (DVD±R/RW) where as the Pioneer DVR-105 only records in the (-) minus media (DVD-R/RW).

Hope this provides information that will help you in your decision on which DVD burner to purchase.

      Regards,

Well i had a good look around before decideing what dvd -writer to get and found that the nec nd1300 i think is probley the best drive as it does both -r and +r like the sony but its almost 1/2 the price. ie the sony is £250 and i found the nec for £135

And I thought it was a Two Horse Race !

Is the NEC any good for movie & PS2 backups ?

Or is it all down to the software ?

I second Flyby's question "where did you find this nec drive for £135 mate?"

The NEC retails around 280 $...
And it is a no-go for RAW+96 writing (unlike the much more expensive Sony).

The Lite-On that is out at this time is a rebadged Sony. The real Lite-On's will not be out until late June at the earliest. And they will be cheaper when introduced.

well apparently it was a typo on the website. it was nd 1100 not the nd1300. But i have found then nd1300a for £185 for falcon computers in sunderland.
