I would also prefer the sony DRU500a.... but what´s the sense in burning more expensive media like DVD+R ?! The only "pro" is 4x/2x -R/-RW support ! ... (price is also a pro )

If you don't need +R(W) support, the A05 is out soon, will do 4x -R, 2x -RW, and is a 16x10x32 CDR(W) as well.... Pioneers are solid, the Sony has growing pains with its firmware still.

Either the Sony,or the Pioneer are good choices. The Sony allows writing of both competing formats DVD-&RW,DVD+R&RW.The Pioneer only DVD-R&RW.

The Sony also has 24x CDR write speeds, the Pioneer 16X.Can't go wrong with either.

The Pioneer has already proven itself, the Sony is the new kid on the block.

Don't forget, in the second quarter of 2003...Lite-On will intro their 4x at a target price of $199 US retail.

hmm...heard of several problems with DRU500a --> don´t accepts PRINCO DVD-R (cheapest I can get here ) etc.
btw. right now I can´t get any 4x certified ...
