Important! Pioneer released new firmware upgrade for DVD-R/RW drives (DVR-A03/103 and DVR-A04/104) to prevent potential recorder/writer malfunction when inserting new DVD-R/RW High Speed Media.
      More infos here.
Note : The new 1.32 firmware removed support for 2X burning with CMC and ritek media (used by company like Memorex, Traxdata..)
Also, New flash utilities are available to downgrade the firmware when needed.

Can you please advise what media will still be OK to use at 2X. I usually use Pioneer or Lazer, but occassionally an unbranded disc so not sure who produces it.

Verbatim, Tdk, Choice 2x, white label 2x Datasafe2x....
BigPockets and Blankdiskshop both tell you what speed a disk will write at.If it doesn't say 2x then it's 1x.

Exception: New 4x media soon available, trouble is, if you have a Pioneer, it can only write to the new 4x disks at 1x so avoid them if you're a Pioneer owner and stick to 2x media.

If we where to aviod 4x media then thers no reason to flash to 1.32, and are you sure that 4x media will only write at 1x

Absolutly, it says so on Pioneers website..

Quote : Pioneer DVR-A03 / DVR-103 & DVR-A04 / DVR-104 DVD-R/RW Writer drives: Applying this firmware update will not change the functionality of the Writers. After applying this firmware update writing to "high-speed" certified media will be supported; please note that you will only be able to write at 1X with the "high-speed" media.

currently it's not possible to downgrade via software

1.32 anti-downgrade will happen at some stage so don't worry guys
just have to wait a bit longer
