After doing some more reading, I guess it is interlacing causing the jagged edges, for example this boot:
Based upon this, should I be adjusting the CCE encoder settings depending on whether my movie is progressive or interlaced?

I've been using dvdreasy for quite some time now and just recently noticed that on the high action scenes (fast movements), you can clearly see zigzag lines appear, not interlace lines, but jagged edges in the whole scene (around a persons face, for example). Im running the latest dvdreasy version, cce 250, and use the k-lite mega codec pack (http://www.codecguide.com/) for all my codec needs. I have not found a solution to this problem as of yet, and wondering if anyone out there has had this problem before and resolved it.
Can this be a codec related issue with xvid or divx? I used to run all the codecs seperately until I found this pack, simple to use...

I think this may be a bug in the way DVDReasy is handling the interlaced material - never had this problem with previous versions of dvdreasy. The combing effect only appears on interlaced movies, so I'm guessing the video is improperly being encoded, I do have the progressive frame flag unchecked for my CCE settings.
I'm going to try running my movie through ReStream to see if it corrects this problem...if so then DVDReasy is doing something funny.
Restream didnt work, I'm out of ideas, but something is going on :-/ I dont know much enough about mpeg2 to figure out how to correct this...
Hi naro,
is the source PAL or NTSC ?
Could you please post "dvdreasy.log" (exists in DVDREasy working directory)
Cheers,
DVDREasy
NTSC source...
I tried 3 movies today, all have the same issue where the lines appear, depending on the movie its more noticable. Definately interlace combing lines though, just like in that boot picture...Code:Begin of DVDREasy Conversion Process . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- Process Started at : 2005/08/21 15:09:05 Free disk Space : 230,562,688 Kb Computer State . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- Total Running Processes : 30 .....System Idle Process - 16 K .....System - 240 K .....smss.exe - 372 K .....csrss.exe - 3,540 K .....winlogon.exe - 3,524 K .....services.exe - 3,964 K .....lsass.exe - 1,324 K .....ati2evxx.exe - 1,936 K .....svchost.exe - 4,692 K .....svchost.exe - 3,960 K .....svchost.exe - 17,716 K .....svchost.exe - 2,988 K .....svchost.exe - 4,248 K .....ccSetMgr.exe - 3,936 K .....ccEvtMgr.exe - 2,776 K .....spoolsv.exe - 5,352 K .....ati2evxx.exe - 2,456 K .....explorer.exe - 9,088 K .....ccApp.exe - 6,152 K .....VPTray.exe - 5,204 K .....gcasServ.exe - 5,736 K .....type32.exe - 312 K .....point32.exe - 4,432 K .....gcasDtServ.exe - 10,900 K .....DefWatch.exe - 1,588 K .....Rtvscan.exe - 23,056 K .....wdfmgr.exe - 1,596 K .....alg.exe - 3,320 K .....dvdreasy.exe - 7,760 K .....wmiprvse.exe - 5,324 K DVDREasy settings . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- [Folders] Working=D:\demuxed [Paths] cce=C:\Program Files\Cinema Craft Encoder SP\cctsp.exe [CCE] vbr_pass=2 quality_prec=17 use_filter=0 filter_val=2 gop_m=3 gop_nm=4 seq_hdr=1 all_closed_gop=0 fix_gop_length=0 progressive=0 alternate_scan=0 non_linear=0 dvd=0 intra_dc_prec=-1 vmode=multipass [ISO BURN] dvdrw_drive_letter=F: delete_files=0 [ENCODER] name=cce [HC] profile=Best dc_prec=Auto noseq_endcode=0 closedgops=0 matrix=MPEG vmode=multipass Choosed settings information -------------------------------------------------------------- IFO File : F:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO Type : MPEG2 720x480 Aspect : NTSC 16:9 letbox Lenght : 02:07:18 Chapters : 52 Audio : 0x80, English - AC3 6Ch Subtitles : --- No Subtitles --- Create Iso Image : False ISO Volume Label : DVD_VIDEO Burn Iso Image : False STEP - Executing DVD Decrypter to rip VOB files . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- Step Started at : 2005/08/21 15:09:06 Command line : cmd /c cd "D:\demuxed" && "C:\Program Files\DVD Decrypter\dvddecrypter.exe" /MODE IFO /SRC F: /DEST "D:\demuxed" /VTS 01 /PGC 1 /ANGLE 1 /DIRECT 0xE0 0x80 /START /CLOSE Step ended at : 2005/08/21 15:16:48 Free disk Space : 225,935,092 Kb STEP - Analising ripped VOB files . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- Ripped VOB Files Size : 4,627,492 Kb Re-encoding needed : True STEP - Creating DVD2AVI project & Demuxing audio track . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- Step Started at : 2005/08/21 15:16:48 Command line : cmd /c "C:\Program Files\DVDREasy\dvd2avidg\dvd2avidg.exe" -CS=2 -TN=1 -OM=2 -AIF=[D:\demuxed\vts_01_1.vob] -OF=[D:\demuxed\movie] -exit Step ended at : 2005/08/21 15:19:03 Free disk Space : 225,516,420 Kb STEP - Bitrate calculation -------------------------------------------------------------- Audio Bitrate (Kbps) : 448 New Video Bitrate (Kbps) : 4332 STEP - Creating AVS File . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\DVDREasy\dvd2avidg\mpeg2dec3dg.dll") mpeg2source("D:\demuxed\movie.d2v") AddAudio() ConvertToYUY2() STEP - Executing MPEGinfo to get video settings . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- Step Started at : 2005/08/21 15:19:03 720 horizontal size 480 vertical size 3 aspect ratio (1=1:1, 2=4:3, 3=16:9, 4=2.21:1) 4 framerate (3=25, 4=29.97) 9800000 nominal bitrate 112 VBV buffer size 1 chroma (1=4:2:0, 2=4:2:2, 3=4:4:4) 10 DC precision 3 picture structure (1,2=field, 3=frame) 1 top field first (0=no, 1=yes) 0 DCT type (0=field, 1=frame) 1 scan method (0=zigzag, 1=alternate) 0 frame type (0=interlaced, 1=progressive) 1 Q scale (0=linear, 1=nonlinear) PullDown needed : False Step ended at : 2005/08/21 15:19:10 STEP - Creating ECL File . . . -------------------------------------------------------------- ; Thanks naro,
I'm on vacations, and I only have my "poor" laptop . . . (encoding take hours)
I will analise this and reply you ASAP. I feel that DVDREasy has a bug when treating some NTSC material.
Could you please try the same movie using HC encoder instead of CCE, and see if the results are the same ?
Cheers,
DVDREasy
Sure no problem, I'll even try a previous version of DVDreasy because I really dont remember having this problem on encodes prior to your 0.6.5 release.
It seems the HC encoder does not suffer from this problem, matter a fact, even the color is better... You do see some interlace lines appearing, but they're in parts where I would consider it to be understandable for them to show, whereas with CCE, you see the combing all throughout almost, no matter whats going on onscreen... I'll try a 3rd encode with CCE using a previous version of DVDreasy and see if the problem is there...

thanks naro,
The problem is not from CCE itself, but from how DVDREasy pass the settings to CCE.
Now I'm more convinced that DVDREasy has a bug (not all settings are correctly passed to cce). This only happens is some NTSC source. All works great with PAL sources.
I live in PAL land and have a huge difficulty to grab NTSC material. I will try to grab a NTSC source with the some specs from yours (reported by MPEGINFO) and try to figure out what is going on.
Again, thanks for your time and support.
Cheers,
DVDREasy
Hey no problem man, your app is truely the best and I would do anything to help this project succeed.
If the CCE thing isnt a bug, this one defintely is... I installed your application locally as an administrator, but when I log into my account (roaming profile) through a domain, dvdreasy no longer functions. Start menu option to run dvdreasy is gone, and when I go to explore and run it, dvdreasy blows up saying it cannot find the correct version of DVD Decryptor, version 3.2 or greater. Then exits out after that.
Hi naro,
DVDREasy checks for DVDDECRYPTER in the system registry.
When you install DVDDECRYPTER, it creates its own registry keys ONLY in HKEY_CURRENT_USER and not in HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE !
Thats why when you log in to your account and launch DVDREasy it complains about not finding DVDDECRYPTER. If you want to use DVDREasy from your account, just reinstall DVDDECRYPTER with your account. (you could specify the same directory of the previous installation - Administrator)
I hope you can understand me . . .
Cheers,
DVDREasy
Worked, thanks...
I continue to have terrible interlacing problems using DVDREasy and HC.
