      Preferred Matrix for HC

Just wondering if anybody has done any comparisons of the different matrices available using Hank's Coder.

      Any favorites?

My personal favorite for normal DVD backups is the QLB matrix.

Can you explain why ? I'm using MPEG as the default matrix in DVDREasy.

      Cheers,

      Yes...

      @dvdreasy
The QLB matrix compresses just a little bit better than the MPEG matrix without loosing detail.
About using the MPEG matrices, there's the MPEG standard (all 16 for non-intra) and the newer one (16, 17 ... 33), so it's not very clear which is actually used.

Just found this program today, nice idea to "knit" all these freeware programs together.
Also have a question, why is the Bitrate Viewer run needed?
Maybe the answer is already in the forum but didn't read it all yet

      Hank315,

In fact, BITRATEVIEWER is only needed to get MPEG information of the original movie (Chroma format, DCT precision, Pic. structure, Field topfirst, DCT type, Quantscale, Scan type, Frame type, etc.)

I don't know how to parse an MPEG2 file and BITRATEVIER was the only tool,AFAYN, that gives me this kind of info. Based on that DVDREasy writes the rights settings for HC and CCE (TFF, Interlaced,....)

Do you know any other tool to do it ?

      Thanks,

      DVDREasy

BRV has the nasty habbit to crash on my system...
And all that information is in the first GOP, I can program a little app which can give you all that info within a second.
A second, that's the runtime, not the programming time
