      My first run locked up my PC

      ... so I think I must have something configured incorrectly. And by lock up I mean I had to hit the power button, ctrl-alt-del was not responding.

      I installed version 005 and overlaid 020, 031 and 032.

      I tried to find a log file to paste but not sure where Easy would put this. However the screen was frozen in CCE and the last file written into the working directory was a movie.vaf of about 37MB, and a minute later, an empty movie.mpv

      I am using CCE SP version 2.50.01.00.

      Is there any other information I can give to help diagnose this problem ? Do I need to use a specific CCE of the 2.50 family ??

      Keen to get this working, so happy for any assistance.

      Cheers,

      Hi,

      The installation procedure is correct !
      CCE SP 2.5 is the right one !

      It seem you have "memory problem". CCE is very sensitive to memory problems.
      If you have the slightest memory problem then CCE will find it. Normally no BSOD, it just hangs the system.

      Have you used CCE before ? It worked OK ?

      cheers,

      Okey dokey

      Running XP SP2 with 512MB RAM ( 2 X Corsair 256MB PC3200 dual channel config) and Athlon XP 2600+, all plugged into an Asus A7N8X-E motherboard. My first self build

      Haven't had any memory problems previously, and I have used other more recent versions of CCE ( 2.67.x.x ) in other all-in-one apps without a hitch, but not the 2.50.x.x version.

      By memory problem, DVDREasy, do you mean a physical fault ? Should I run a memcheck ? Or more a memory management issue from within the OS ?

      Any way I can run CCE on it's own with the movie.ecl file in the working area to see if I can dupe the freeze ?

      Thanks all.

      Hi,

      Can you try to run CCE - Open the ECL file, that exists in DVDREasy working directory, and ENCODE it ?

      Also, Can you post the ECL file ?

      Cheers

      Sure thing. I'll kick off the encode later on this evening, and will post how I get on.

      In the meantime, here is the ECL file, converted to txt so I could attach it.

      Thanks for the help.

      Well running CCE on its own with the ecl file worked fine, and left a nice fat movie.mpv in my working directory

      This has got me thinking perhaps this was just one of the those one-off lock ups.

      Unless you noticed anything amiss in the file I posted, I am gonna clear down the working directory tonight, and start from scratch and I will report back how things go.

      Cheers.

      The ECL file that you post is CORRECT!

      I don´t notice any thing strange on it.

      All the information is there : the setting that you define in DVDREasy, the ones grabed by Bitrate Viewer, the chapters information generated by DVD decrypter.

      Yes, try to clean DVDREasy working directory a give it a go.

      Cheers

      Well not particularly good news, I'm afraid, but a little step forwards perhaps.

      I cleaned out the working directory, rebooted, and only left essential apps running in the background ( av, firewall etc ).

      The PC lockup up in CCE again, but I think it was in the second or third pass as I was watching the first pass out of the corner of my eye before I went to bed and that was nearly done.

      So my next two tests are as follows :

      1) DVDREASY again but with CCE set to one pass only to see if I can get past the encoding step.

      2) Dig out DVD Rebuilder and point it at the older CCE 2.50 and see how it gets on.

      Anything else you can think of to try ?

      I'll aim to post the results of these tests early next week.

      odd tho it may sound have you updated your graphics card drivers recently !?

      i just had the same problem recently with dvd2svcd and cce freezing in the PASS stage after a few hours of messing and changing ram and removing and reinstalling stuff i remembered i had updated my CATALYST drivers a day or so ago

      reinstalling the older version i found that everything including cce worked fine again !?

      its worth a try !?

      did you change your graphics drivers lately !?

      How spooky

      I actually downloaded updated Catalyst drivers last week, but decided against installing them ! I just deleted the file. I am still running these :

      wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-00-040322a-014266c.exe

      So good spot, VIPER-1069 but not quite

      By the way, which version are running that works well for you ?

      wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-051-040825a-017633C is what im using

      the one i tried was

      wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-071-041026a-018719c and it just kept locking up on encoding

      goin back to the 8-051-040825a-017633C sorted this problem and never froze since on encode

      just whack wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-051-040825a-017633C into google and it will find you a download

      make a restore point then uninstall the drivers you have and install this one

      if it dont work you can roll back to the previous

      Thanks, I'll give that a try before I do any more testing.

      I have found a copy of the driver, and I know we are going a little off-topic, but I need a bit of advice regarding uninstalling the previous driver.

      1) My uninstaller shows 3 options, ATI Software Uninstall Utility, ATI Control Panel and ATI Display Driver. Do I need to uninstall these all and does the order matter ?

      2) The driver I use currently came with the graphics card. Will I still get the ATI options if I install the generic Catalyst version ? I use the ATI tray icon to change resolution and a hotkey to send signal out to the SVideo port, and I don't want to lose these functions.

      Never upgraded a graphics driver before, and want to avoid as much pain as possible !

      uninstall all 3; sequence: uninstall the Driver > uninstall the Control Panel > reboot > abort automatic driver installation > uninstall the Uninstall Utility > reboot > abort automatic driver installation > install the new (older) driver;

      both functions are provided by the standard Catalyst;
      also you could look at your graphic card vendor's homepage for his specific Catalyst 4.8 release;

      btw: standard Catalyst 4.8 is the one i use too;
