      Finally found the ATI "old versions " page and downloaded a pukka 4.8 + control panel.

      Set an encode off before I went to bed, and cos I can't sleep I came to check and it had frozen again

      However I did notice a message from my firewall saying CCE called by ECLCCE had tried to send a packet and of course, I wasn't around to click Yes ! I am not sure if this is related to the freeze, but I will try again tomorrow.

      I will have to keep my eye on the process and watch for a similar message box and leap into action.

      Thanks all ( and goodnight - hopefully )

      What a drag, Catalyst 4.8 is still causing a CCE freeze for me.

      So frustrating, as I can see what a useful tool DVDREASY would be if I could just get a stable environment around it

      As a last resort I am going to try upgrading to Catalyst 4.12, the latest. At least if it doesn't work, I feel I have made every effort to get it working.

      Other than that, it is back to a Shrink/Rebuilder combo, or hoping for a future version of Easy that supports a later CCE

      now i think your problem is not Catalyst related;
      1. be sure you are using a 100% proper CCE 2.5 release;
      2. check your system stability with Prime95

      about Prime95: there is nothing special to do; close all background applications; in Prime's "Options > Memory Settings" amount all RAM for the test except 64 MB (needed for your OS itself); then run a 24h torture test;

      if you get errors, then you can cancel Prime; no need to run it again, before fixing your obviously hardware problems;
      you can try to find the culprit by removing all unneeded devices (PCI cards, drives, RAM modules) then test again; if it fails again, slow down your CPU, FSB and RAM timings; if it fails again, borrow another CPU; if it fails again, borrow another motherboard; ...

      if Prime reports "Possible hardware failure ...", this means there is a problem, but it could be driver related too; have a look at Prime's ReadMe.txt and esp. the Stress.txt;

      @nwpsys

      First, Try what duracell sugest.

      Just want to report what happened to a friend:
      - Bought a new PC with ATI GRAPHIC card and installed the CATALYST drivers that came with the CD (version 3.6)
      - Installed DVDREasy and all was running well.
      - some days later, updated to the last version of CATALYST
      - DVDREasy starts to crach/hung in CCE
      - roll back drivers to initial ones (ver. 3.6) and now DVDREasy in running smoothly

      you could also check that your processor is not overheating maby check that the fan is clean from dirt and dust on the CPU

      does it freeze when playing games or other processor intensive tasks !?

      Thanks for the feedback, folks.

      @duracell, can confirm it is a proper 2.50 release. I did run Prime95 when I built my PC, but that was about 9 months ago, so I will give it another shot early next week in case any problems have developed.

      @dvdreasy, interesting. I still have the original CD that came with my Sapphire card, so might be worth a try at a later date.

      @VIPER_1069, running Speedfan, and I have had no alarms triggered on any of my temperatures. CPU currently at 53degrees C. No other freezes, even on the toughest of games. Not sure I do anything else processor intensive, but no other dramatic freezes as in CCE.

      I'll keep you posted.
