      Have you tried the updated CDROM.CFG from Ahead? I read on a formum that you need an 'F' after the drive to make it work.
      An excerpt from the CFG file just downloaded today:

      [PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-104]
      TYPE=IDE GENERIC_1
      COM=2
      CDRCAP_MAXREADSPEED=3300
      CDRCAP_MAXREADDASPEED=1800
      CDRCAP_SETSPEED_METHOD=1

      [PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-104F]
      TYPE=IDE GENERIC_1
      COM=2
      CDRCAP_MAXREADSPEED=5700
      CDRCAP_MAXREADDASPEED=1800
      CDRCAP_SETSPEED_METHOD=1
