Problem with backed up movie...

I backed up a movie to my hard drive and it plays perfectally off of the HDD. But when I burn it to a disk (using Nero 6 Rom) it either plays 'skippy' or doesnt play at all.

Why would this be?

The movie is 'Anger Management' and I used Dvd Shrink to put it on the HDD.

It could be few things like Nero, any reason you don't use DVD Decrypter to burn? IMHO nero is not the best for burning movies. Also who makes the media that you are using? It could be junk media.

Im using Memorex DVD-R 4.7gb media. Its been working well for awhile now (until this one disk).

I havent thought about using different burning software since I thought Nero was one of the best (If not the best).

I dont think its my burner going bad either since its relatively new.

I think a few members would disagree with that statement!!

Use Nero DVD-CD speed to see who makes the Media.
This is TDK media but if you look you can see that someone else makes it.

Ok, I was going to use dvd decriptor but aparentally it doesnt burn a VIDEO_TS folder with all of the files inside... Am I correct? or am I just not looking hard enough?

You are correct you would have to make an iso when using shrink to burn with decryper using iso mode ....but like me you make video_ts and audio_ts folders and burn with nero

@PC-GUY nero is great for just this job .. sure it sucks for encode but just burning VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS as a dvd video disk then its good its done me well for the last couple of years (note for reference decrypter uses nero burning engine anyhow )

I would put this down to a media problem a program such as DVD IDENTIFIER will give the media id and maker

my suggestion would be TRY different media such as one with RITEK G05 dye on it if possible get REAL RITEKS

my other suggestion would be BURN SLOWER i don't know what speed you are burning at as you did not mention it in your posts its quite possible you have a bad batch of MEMOREX and some will burn fine at the rated speed on them and some will only burn at SLOWER SPEEDS ... you may get some that do not burn at all

let us know how you get on

Skipping during playback is 99% due to the media yuour useing. Nero will not cause your skipping and neither will Shrink. Sorry but Memorex is one of the worst on the market and will vary from disk to disk and spindle to spindle. Get at least some Ritek media as a better starting point. Also try some -R next time, you might have beter luck.

I burned 2 disks, both at 4x, with nero.

I also downloaded DVD Identifier. Here is what is says when I put in my Memorex DVD-R:

DANG. It really sucks to hear that... since I have 28 more memorex disks left.

By the way, I was using -R...

The currnet firmware installed is A101. But the most recent firmware is A105. I should probably upgrade right? I dont really want to go through the steps of setting it as the master and the only one on the IDE cable. Im also paranoid of screwing the dvd-rom drive up completely. What do you guys think?

EDIT: OMG I think I the firmware update is the solution!! I was looking through the firmware update site and it said:

the part about defragging is something you should do every now and then to keep your hd running smoothly

basic description of defrag your hard drive ..

I see from the link above you have an LG dvd burner

anyhow im glad the firmware update worked

usually the updates are to cover different media types and it tells the drive how to burn to that particular media effectively

you may also find it burns at 6x or even 8x but i would not try push it over maby 6 x for reliability
