Question Lite On LTD-163 DVD ???...any good?

Well my Samsung DVD drive has just died. Something wrong with the eject system and as I'm not mechanically minded, this seems like a very good reason to upgrade.

Thinking about getting the Lite On x16 LTD-163 DVD drive.
Would be used mainly (99% of the time) for ripping to Vcd and Mpeg 1.

Any feedback about this drive would be very handy.

      Thanx in advance.

I use one all the time for ripping (using smartripper) DVD and then converting to vcd as per Chickenmans tutorials.
Never have any problems with it.
Very rarely use it to watch dvds on though as I've got a couple of standalones.
Its for work and not play , in my case!

Absolutely the very best in copying with great speed plus it reads all the copy protected cds. I am changing over from the much touted Pioneer 106S DVD which was OK with DVD but faltered with CDR and was really a poor CDRW reader. I have also used the ASUS 16x but found it lacking with certain DVDs.

The Liteon is also one of the fastest reader for DAE. Go to CDR Labs and CD Speed 2000 for more tests.

I have the Plextor UltraPlex 40max and find it to be excellent for audio but very poor for data especially on CDRW and InCD formatted CDRWs.

      Thumbs up Thanx

      Cheers for the feeback.

Managed to fix the mechanical problem with my current drive, so I'll have to think of another way to break it, then I'll have a great excuse to by the Lite On....well that's what I'll tell the wife anyway!!!

Lite On x16 LTD-163<------------------- Get it while it's hot! This drive also cuts the SecuROM *new* protection found on Warcraft III& Neverwinter Nights. Drive also cuts safedsic 2.5.021! I wonder if this drive can cut Key2audio? Anyone?

      landok,
What brand name cdrw do you own and what are you trying to backup? Star Wars Episode II an audio, or pc game?

How do you's find the R1211 RPC2 disable method?

I have found it not as compatible compared to patched BIOSes.

For example, plays all regions fine in PowerDVD, but in MSI DVD (bundled with KT3-Ultra) it reports all region changes completed and drive is locked..

I must admit though that I'm not sure if this is a drive problem or the software since I haven't used the MSI DVD with any other drives..

Problem is tho that only MSIDVD supports the full surround/dts optical output that is integrated on the mainboard..

I have applied the patch R211 patch and it works fine with Power DVD. Also DVD Genie indicates it as RPC1 drive with unlimited changes.
