Anyone know where I can purchase blank DVD-9's? 8.5gb single sided, dual layer.

Sure there are.------h**p://timefordvd.com/glossary/GlossaryD.shtml------ You might be correct about dvd burners not being able to write to them though. But, I would like to try to burn a large dvd iso on one just to see what happens. Instead of having to split a large dvd into 2 4.7's.

The dvd9's and dvd 18's you refer to are PRESSED SILVER dvd's NOT writeable dvd-r's.
Your dvd writer will not be able to do anything with a dvd 9.These are pressed on professional dvd mastering devices.Much quicker than burning to a dvd-r.
Your writer uses it's laser to "burn" into a coloured dye on a dvd-r.

      Totally different process

Sorry guys but DVD9 writable disks and writers do exist, they are just not available on the retail market. Almost a closed shop for them being used by industry. The writers are in excess of $20,000.

Industry uses them to make "masters" for the duplication houses to duplicate.

After more research into dvd-9. Chickenman is right. Only the authoring houses have them and none of them are allowed to sell any blanks and the writers range anywhere from $20,000 to $25,000. Well there goes my wet dream, but it was just an idea I wanted to try. But if I do get my grimey little hands on a dvd-9 I'll tell the results.
