You only need a chipped PS2 to play a DVD-R Game. A DVD-R movie (copy or ripped movie) does not need a mod chip.

    7. ps2 dvdr

i use ps2 to watch dvdr on all the time, you do not need it chipped but i can only boot the film with AR2 cartridge or DVDx disc, and find that only movies burned with record now max work for me.

I've just tried watching a few DVD-Rs on my mates PS2 to see which ones work okay and the PS2 is pretty good with most brands.

They work quite happily on a standard PS2 without even needing an AR2 or a DVDx disc.

I only suggest avoiding Bulkpac & early Princo discs.
DVD-RWs don't appear to work ( or at least Princo ones.)

As for copying films straigh from a DVD to DVD-R you might need to strip certain features or even have to re-encode the movie to get it onto a DVD-Rs 4.7 GB capacity.
