panasonic problem.......maybe

I have a panasonic dmr t3030 and its been an excellent workhorse.Ocasionaly many recorders will not work with certain brands or types of discs.I have had this happen with one brand which cased the recorder to shut itself down.U11 .,ok use different brand.A year later tried 8x burn memorex dvd-r .The older memorex 4x worksd fine but not these.It took several minutes to convince the recorder that I wanted to remove the disk.I push open the display reads close.VERY frustrating!! Could anyone tell me if this just another general incompatability problem,or does the recorder have an aversion to discs that have a burn speed faster than 4x.......john
