donīt go for the princo 4x dvd-r

I got 10 of them and tested them with nero dvd speed.

All 10 have read probs after 75% and above.

My ritek, sony and princo 2x donīt have this behaviour.

      Looks like a bad batch.

Ohh forgot something..the writer is the pioneer 105 and the dvd-rom is a liteon 163

I bought 100 of them back in February. I've burned at least 75 with no hitches. I wonder if the newer lots are different?

      Unhappy

Damn I was just about to buy some too as they are so cheap here compared to Riteks.

Master, were they this disc below m8?

Had burned 2 of them on a DRU-500... no problems.
      They feel cheap, though.

Thx Master, they look almost the same (apart from branding) as the ICE 4X Princo dye discs I have been using. No doubt exactly the same disc but I heard they have been withdrawn because of a bad batch too.

Laz both Svp and Digital Promotions said to me that some of there customers have had problems with the latest batch of Princos that they had been sent.Although some worked fine.Luck of the draw I guess or some sort of setup problems with different cpus. And like scarecrow said the plain whitetops do feel cheap compared to the datawrite discs I have.

I bought 10 of them (same as in Laz's picture) to try them out. First one burnt fine at 4x no errors, the rest I burnt at 2x as my supplier was saying everyone is returning them. They are suposedly very light sensitive, so he was saying and while they burn okay, in a few days time, you can't read them ! Reminds me of Princo CDR's They were AU$2.10 each, about 80p

I find the Sigma 2x made by CMC or the Maxdata 2x made by Prodisk fantastic and the same price or cheaper than the Princo anyway.
      Cheers,

The prodisk, nanya, ritek and sony are doing fine here too.

All at 2x with the hacked 1.30/1.33 fw

I've heard good thinks about the Prodisk DVD-R's but not seen any yet in the UK.

Be very wary of Datash1te discs though, I've been told that there are dodgy dealings going on with the factory that finishes & brands these discs. What has been going on, so I am told, is that Datawrite launch a new disc... i.e. The Red 4X ones with a Princo dye and they flood the market and everybody loves them because they prove to be a cheap & reliable disc. Then the said factory in Scotland chucks in massive amounts of "B" grade Princo discs (That really should have been thrown away) and they finish the disc with the same branding and pass them on as grade A discs!

Now I think the guy who said this actually works in this factory in Scotland going by the info he had. When asked for more he was a bit reticent to provide any. But they also do the same with Bulkpaq's too, remember the Lilac 1X Bulkpaq disc? (Datawrite/Datasafe & Bulkpaq are one and the same company btw) Now I bought 100 and they were fantastic, I still have some and have movies on them too and they were great discs. Then all of a sudden they turned to crap and everybody is saying how bad they were. Most were saying it was a dodgy Princo dye, but I think the story I was told makes more sense for these bad discs on the market.

So if you buy Datawrite it seems like luck of the draw, personally I wont touch them after all the complaints I've seen in the consumers forum at CDRG forums. And I see DigitalPromo still won't sell the Red Top 4X discs despite Datash1te saying the problems are over.

@ Master: no, two 4X ones (yours burned OK too). They are only very slightly cheaper than 4X Ritek (quite available currently here), so I will not try any more of them...
Prodisks are currently out of stock here.

      @ master

I've just managed to source some Prodisc unbranded (silver top) 2X discs at only Ģ60 for 100. Do you know if this particular disc is any good?

      TIA
