SDK - Korean media - anyone know anything ?

I got 50 of these at Xmas. Anyone know where on the standings these stand ? On a scale of 1 (CMC own standard level) to 10 (Taiyo Yuden/Sony level) where do they stand ?

      A penny saved is ridiculous.

I run Fujis exclusively...when checked with CDRid, all mine are Taiyo Yudens. Doesnt get any better than TYs and never had any problems with them...especially when they are $0.99 for a spindle of 50.

Sorry I didnt pick this one back up sooner...

Yep...I can pick up the Fuji (TYs) for $0.99 for a 50 spindle. They have a rebate which varies from week to week. I most often get them from Best Buy, our local store always has them on sale. Most of the time, they are $10.99 with a $10 mail-in rebate. They sell out really fast at that price, but I always buy a bunch and send in rebates for all my family members...LOL! Even without the rebate, they are the best deal by far at $11...cant beat it.

Im not sure about the shipping rates from here to the UK...but maybe it might be worth it. I have no idea what kind of media you can get there or for how much...interesting thought though.

Taiyo Yuden can be bought, but most computer shops that DO stock 'em are the shops you can imagine run by a mixture of Scrooge and ***in ! EXPENSIVE. (To say the least) The middlemen who supply the comp fairs tend to like to deal in stuff they can make a huge killing on, which tends to be ****e like CMC.

      Phil...kinda off topic, but..

What is a computer fair? I read about shops and stuff that are in the UK but I guess I dont know or understand how stores and such are in the UK? I take it you dont have "retail chains" (such as Best Buy, Frys, and Circuit City) in the UK?

Just curious, trying to get a little better understanding when I talk with other members...

You have various retail chains - largest being DSG (Dixons Stores Group) which owns Dixons, Currys and PC World - they tend to do branded media, and their own "PC Line" brand a bit cheaper in tubs.

We have Staples and Costco, but they aren't a patch on US versions or them.

There are other catalog stores (eg Argos - with the GUS group owning many of them) - no wonder it's "ripoff Britain".

The cheap foreign stores sometimes have CD-R media (eg Aldi and Lidl )

There are a few online staores that have a good selection of media.

And then there's the Sunday computer fairs - a collection of small traders (often working from a garden shed) booking stands in a hired hall - several show circuits cover different areas, and if you stick with regular traders at a circuit you visit often, then you're normally ok.

I came unstuck once ... went to one I hadn't been to before, bought some RAM and it was the wrong type (said it was EDO, and it was only FPM) - first time the trader had been at that show, and last time too!

      Trust the regulars - ONLY

I did get a bargain another time - Adaptec SCSI card for 10 quid!
OEM version, several on the table - I picked the latest date, with a SMALL BIOS chip, and it turned out to be flashable to the latest retail BIOS.

There's also a regular CD-R man at my local show, with a fine selection of branded and unbranded media, cased, slimline, tubbed and shrinkwrap, 10's, 25's, 50's and 100's
Even singles - great when I wanted to check if 90 or 99 worked in my drive.

Thats cool, I wish they had something like that here...sounds like fun to check out all the stuff. Im stuck with the weekly Sunday ads...

The smaller local privately owned shops here are very expensive, although sometimes they carry the rare stuff that you need. Most often I think they buy from the retail offers and then just re-sell the items in their shops. Most places have implemented quantity limits...

Thanks LTR...it is always interesting to hear about other places.

Yeah, comp fairs are great, mine is held in a sports centre, in the north of England - its a fair old size ! Some smashing deals, but as LTR says, there is the occasional rip off merchant, so you have to watch out, and as he says use only the regulars (to be fair, in all the time I have been going to fairs, I have known only 2 - in 5 years !). But prices tend to be significantly more realistic than those of the Dixon's group of retailers that LTR mentioned. There is also Office World, too by the way.

      A penny saved is ridiculous.
