Angry Smart ripper can't read block!

every time I try to use smartripper on a original dvd movie i get an error box with can'r read block (bytepostion: okb)etc unlock NOW and retry.

with 3 options below ABORT, RETRY, AND IGNORE.

ABORT is no good, RETRY does no difference and IGNORE takes hours to keep clicking using the mouse, is there an easier method.

Also I have tried to copy a second DVD disc that just has the making of a movie etc using smart ripper and tat wat straight forward.

does this mean that I am facing protection on the disc's I am trying to copy.

      Cheers Mark.

      hmm..no copy protection

      1. clean the disc ...
      2. maybe there r some scratches on the disc ....
      3. try another ripper ....

Try playing with dvdwin or similar before ripping as this can sometimes unlock blocks.
Is the movie the same region as your dvdrom?
If not you maybe locked out. This would probably not affect the bonus disc as many are region free.

El pesidente is the master however!

      thx @daveml

      1. yeah ...also a good suggestion to play it with "softplayer" to unlock it ....

      2. if it has something to do with region code ...goto h**p://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/

SmartRipper (and other rippers) have problems particularly under Win XP. As mentioned, simply PLAY the DVD with software of your choice (WinDVD and PowerDVD are both good) and this simply UNLOCKS the drive, then run Smartripper.

I use Smartripper + Windows XP PRo + Region Killer (same people as CloneCD) + Patched Firmware for the DVD rom (see the firmware page)

In addition, before using SMARTRIPPER, always play the movie with you DVD player to unlock.

There is not really need to install ASPI drivers. If you install them, smartripper will use ASPI when wprking. If you do not install ASPI drivers, smartripper will use DeCSS. But follow the recommendation of not using the last ASPI drivers.

Following this summary of everything that has been said so far in this thread, everything should run OK

      Regards

      Attilio
